The Temple is Not the End of the Road

From the time our children are born, we teach them about the importance of the temple. We want to impress upon them the sacred nature of that beautiful building and inspire them to marry there for time and all eternity. When the day arrives and you see your child, dressed in white, take the hand of the one they have chosen and become man and wife, you sigh with contentment. Mission accomplished. However, this is where we get into trouble. Far too many of our young people are of the belief that if they get married in the temple, all … Continue reading

Reason #47 Why I’m Grateful for Marriage

Tonight, I came home late, my arms bulging with sacks of groceries. The hugest, giantest flying beetle followed me into the house, and before I’d even set anything down, started to dive bomb me. He flew around my head, bounced off my forehead, buzzed in my ears, and I was sure I could see a little man riding on his back, wielding a spear. I set the groceries down and grabbed the broom, figuring I might be able to flick the beast out the open front door. My aim is not so good when fear is coursing through my veins. … Continue reading

Visiting Teaching Message: Marriage between a Man and a Woman is Ordained of God

Our Visiting Teaching Message for the month of April is entitled, “Marriage between a Man and a Woman is Ordained of God.” We first read the scripture in the Doctrine and Covenants 49:16-17 which reminds us that husbands and wives should be one flesh, that the earth might answer the end of its creation. We then hear from Sister Julie B. Beck, who says that we believe in forming eternal families. In the preexistence, we fought on our Savior’s side to protect our right to have and to belong to eternal families. That was part of our Heavenly Father’s plan … Continue reading

But They Were Married in the Temple

We place a lot of emphasis on getting married in the temple. We teach about it in Family Home Evening, Primary, Young Men’s and Young Women’s. Our focus as an LDS people is to be temple worthy and remain temple worthy throughout our lives. Unfortunately, as we talk about temple marriage, sometimes we forget one very important thing – temple marriage gives us the opportunity to be together forever. It is not a guarantee. My parents were divorced when I was a teenager. They had been married in the temple and my sisters and I were all born in the … Continue reading

Young Women: Temple Marriage

It is important to teach the young women the importance of temple marriage. Of course the ideal place to do this is in the home. As parents it is important to talk about the blessings that the girls will receive as they reach their goal of temple marriage. It is important to talk about how families have the opportunity to be together forever and the way for that to happen is to be sealed in the temple. In addition to stressing the blessings of temple marriage, you should talk to your daughter about the things that she needs to do … Continue reading

Young Women: 5 Ideas for Spiritual Activities

It is important to provide a wide variety of activities for the Young Women to participate in. It is important to plan activities where the young women can grow spiritually. These activities often work well when you plan the combined young women’s activity. Here are five ideas for spiritual young women’s activities. 1) You can have a night that focuses on the importance of temple marriage. You could have a young couple who were recently married in the temple speak, as well as an older couple. You should ask the speakers to focus on the blessings that they have seen … Continue reading

General Conference From the Past: “Women of Righteousness”

In a devotional address given at BYU on March 13, 2001, Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve addressed the role of women, and how God views them. This was a wonderful talk that I, as a stay-at-home mom, particularly took to heart. It is very uplifting and, as Elder Ballard stated, good for both women and men to read and ponder. He begins by quoting a letter sent to church headquarters from an LDS woman who felt as though she were living a lie. Despite a strong testimony of the gospel, she doubted her value beyond … Continue reading

Welcome to our Week in Review here in LDS. If you weren’t able to join us throughout the week, here is your chance to get caught up at a glance. We kept on track with our “Dinner Discussions” for the week, and … Continue reading

Dinner Discussions 2008 Week 18

This week’s dinner discussions are based on lesson eighteen in the manuals. The Primary lessons are one week behind. You may need to adjust your schedule to match your ward’s schedule. Dinner discussions should be a positive experience for your children, and a chance for you to delve a little deeper into gospel topics. You may want to add memorizing a scripture a month to your dinner discussions as well. If you have a child in nursery or Sunbeams he learned about being grateful for his hands. The lesson focused on all the things that the hands can do both … Continue reading
